Although Bansin is less known than Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck, its famous neighbouring seaside resorts, you cannot notice that it is less beautiful and elegant. All the three places lie next to each other and there does not seem to be any obvious border between them. They have even formed one municipality for some years now. This geographical and political unity is also emphasized by architecture: Most of the buildings at Bansin were built in historicist and art noveau style about 1900, which are also typical of Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck.
1897 is considered to be the year of the foundation of the seaside resort of Bansin. Today the number of inhabitants is about 2500. The small holiday resort completely depends on tourism and tourists, who besides the beautiful ancient architecture appreciate above all a large and sandy beach.
Strolling along the Bergstraße ("Mountain Street(!)"), the promenade or the pier, which reaches a length of more than 300 metres, is to be highly recommended. While doing so it is not difficult to imagine past times when smartly dressed ladies and gentlemen from Berlin were spending their holidays at Bansin. That is to say, the seaside resort is not a modern dormitory town made of glass, concrete and steel, but a place of ancient luxurious charm, which once only rich people could afford to visit for holidays. And finally do not miss to visit the Richter House which is dedicated to the most famous son of the seaside resort. |
