Officially there is no seaside resort of Koelpinsee, but a seaside resort of Loddin-Koelpinsee indicating that  the municipality consists of more than one village..It is located in the centre of Usedom´s coastline on a narrow strip of land between the Baltic Sea and a large lake called Achterwasser. The ancient village of Loddin lies on this lake, whereas Koelpinsee was laid out as the actual seaside resort on the beach of the Baltic Sea about 100 years ago. The distance between these two small villages which, put together, do not have more than 1000 inhabitants is only 2 kilometres.

The quiet seaside village bears the name of another, but smaller lake called Koelpinsee which is right next to it and only 100 metres away from the beach. Tree-covered dunes separate the beach from the lake whose scenic attractiveness is even increased by the presence of several swans and other interesting waterbirds.

1895 is supposed to be the year of the first bathing season at Koelpinsee. Although the small village bears no comparison with the splendour and elegance of the urban seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Bansin, Heringsdorf and Zinnowitz, it is nevertheless a lovely place to visit for holidays: wooded and hilly surroundings, beautiful lakes and a large sandy beach on the Baltic Sea which is not overcrowded even in summer will offer an ideal base for spending a relaxing time.
